The Grammys Big Failure

It's 24 hours after the Grammy awards, and I'm still mad. Not at the awful music that was prevalent throughout the night (I go to bed every night hoping Katy Perry never makes an album again), but rather at the tone of the show. Not the "let's celebrate music and make new memories all the while honouring the past" tripe that host LL Cool J spewed throughout the night. Instead what bothered me was "let us not only allow a woman abuser back into our midst, but let's also HONOUR him with an award".

Nah uh. No way. Not cool one bit.

Maybe you think Chris Brown is a good singer (FYI he isn't). Maybe you think he's a good dancer (since when were the Grammys a dancing competition?) Here's something you shouldn't think though: that Chris Brown should be recognized in any other way beyond the fact that he is a sick and dangerous man.

Maybe you're thinking: "hey Chris Brown made a mistake, a huge mistake but nobody is perfect. He deserves a second chance". To you, my response is this

That is the police report articulating in finite detail what occurred between Brown and Rihanna a mere three years ago.

"he took his right hand and shoved her head against he passenger window of the vehicle, causing an approximate one-inch raised circular contusion."

"Robyn F. turned to face Brown and he punched her in the left eye with his right hand. He then drove away in the vehicle and continued to punch her in the face with his right hand while steering the vehicle with his left hand. The assault caused Robyn F.'s mouth to fill with blood and blood to splatter all over her clothing and the interior of the vehicle.

"Brown looked at Robyn F. and stated, 'I'm going to beat the sh-- out of you when we get home! You wait and see!' "

"After Robyn F. faked the call, Brown looked at her and stated, 'You just did the stupidest thing ever! Now I'm really going to kill you!'

Does that sound like somebody that should be treated as a celebrity? Recognized for their talent? Worshipped by millions of fans? (Many of whom are young women).

Three years after Chris Brown threatened to kill his girlfriend, he was welcomed back with open arms.

Unbelievable.

Chris Brown didn't have to go to jail, he had to perform community service. Here's something he should be doing for the community for the rest of his life. Speaking out about violence against women.

Does he? Nobody hears about it, and I doubt the Chris Brown media machine would keep such things to themselves. Chris Brown should be giving talks every week about domestic abuse, about the mistakes he made, about the anger issues he clearly has.

Instead he shows up in LA and accepts an award to a warm reception. What a world.

Those fans Chris Brown has? Some of them took to twitter last night commenting that he is so good looking, that they wouldn't mind being hit by him.

These are your fans Chris, you created this. You have to fix it.Talk to them, respond to them on twitter. Tell them that such violence is wrong and all men should respect and treat women properly. You've already failed them once, don't keep failing them.

Maybe Chris Brown regrets what he did. It doesn't matter though. He is seen as a role model. Countless people look up to him, want to be him. That makes me sick.

Chris Brown should go through the rest of his life haunted by the mistakes he made, because there are some things that should not be forgotten. He should be speaking out against domestic violence every single day for the rest of his life, maybe then, maybe SOMEDAY he can be forgiven.

Instead he is silent.

And all that can be heard: applause as he accepts his Grammy. A thank you speech.

What a world.
